Ofsted

The school was last inspected by Ofsted in July 2025. Overall, the school has been judged as ‘Requires Improvement’, but with elements of ‘Good’. The report highlights areas for improvement and opportunity, alongside many elements of our provision that are well-established and of high quality, for example, in the areas of Personal Development and Early Years, which were both graded as ‘Good’.

We are really pleased that the report references many of the strengths that make Overstone a special place for our children to learn and grow. The report describes our school as one where “pupils are happy and safe in this caring school”. The work that has been done in the school to provide a safe, nurturing environment where children receive high quality pastoral care has been recognised. “Leaders have made important improvements in the school, particularly in regard to how well pupils behave”. Children constantly demonstrate our school values and “staff have high expectations for pupil’s behaviour, which are met consistently across the school”.

Importantly, the report recognises that “pupils enjoy the many experiences that the school provides to support their personal development.” Our focus on well-being means that children are supported to maintain both positive physical and mental health.

Reading has been a key focus for the school and the efforts from the children, parents and staff have been recognised in helping our children become confident, fluent readers ready for the next stages of their learning “Reading is prioritised highly in the school”. Similarly, in Early Years, children are given a strong foundation, fostering positive habits and a love for learning from the very start of their education journey.

Under the current Ofsted framework there is no overall judgement for schools. There are 5 specific areas that are inspected and these have been graded as follows:

  •           Quality of Education – Requires improvement
  •          Behaviour and Attitudes – Good
  •          Personal Development – Good
  •          Leadership and Management – Requires improvement
  •          Early Years – Good

The report identifies areas for improvement, which will be our focus. We remain fully committed to refining our curriculum and deepening every child’s learning, with a particular focus on our disadvantaged children and those with SEND. We will continue to build upon the strong foundations we are able to offer the children throughout their learning journey at Overstone.

We would like to thank the children, the staff, the parents, the governors and the school community for their hard work and dedication to making Overstone a warm and caring school where learning is valued. We are proud of our wonderful children and dedicated staff, and we look forward to continuing this journey of improvement with you.
