Cultural Capital

Cultural Capital

At Overstone Combined School, all stakeholders are passionate and committed to providing the children in our care with outstanding learning opportunities. Our intention is for children to join us on a learning journey, which will equip them for the future. We want our children to leave us at Year 6 with a range of skills, a love of learning and wonderful memories of their time at primary school. Our aim is to enrich every child’s school experience in order to become educated citizens, by creating an environment where they are encouraged to succeed and be the best they can be.

Cultural capital is not something that is ‘given’ or ‘taught.’ It is about culture, language, traditions and experiences. At Overstone we want to celebrate the uniqueness of us all and share our differences and individualism. It is beyond the curriculum.

Cultural capital is about preparing children with the essential knowledge and skills for what comes next.  The exploration of new skills and experiences helps to nurture resilience, curiosity and creativity.  Through this journey children develop new forms of cultural capital that makes a difference in individual mind-sets, which consequently shapes their future.

Through our curriculum all children at Overstone are exposed to enrichment opportunities which allow them to experience the awe and wonder of the world in which they live.

Cultural capital is the essential knowledge that children need to prepare them for their future success. It is about giving the children the best possible start to their education.
